5. Mt. Takao historical mountain, relaxed one day hike

Let’s enjoy Mt. Takao, a historic and naturally rich mountain located near Tokyo.

Mt. Takao is located in the western suburbs of Tokyo, and we can  reach to mount-foot within one hour from Shinjuku. It is not so high about 600m, and we can easily take a cable car from the base to near the summit.

Although it is a mountain that can be enjoyed casually for hiking, near the summit there is a historic temple that is the object of Buddhist and Shinto worship, as well as mountain worship.

You can also enjoy nature in every season, such as cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves, and when the weather is good, you can see views of Mount Fuji and central Tokyo making it a very popular mountain.

ITINERARY

*Meet at your hotel lobby, move to the nearest station to Shinjuku station. *Approximately 1 hour from Shinjuku Station, we arrive at Takaosanguchi Station, the entrance to Mt. Takao. *Climb to near the top of Mt. Takao using a cable car. *Get off the cable car and take a leisurely hike while enjoying the nature and scenery around the mountain trail. *Visit Buddhist temple, Yakuo-in, built at the end of the 8th century. *Walk slowly to the top of the mountain while enjoying the nature and scenery. *Have a light lunch, such as noodles at a simple soba-noodle restaurant on the summit. *There are several options for getting from the summit to the base, including taking the same cable car down as on the way up, walking down, or taking a chairlift. *There is also a museum at the base where visitors can learn about the nature of Mt. Takao freely.

＊From the hotel, take the subway or other public trains to Shinjuku Station. ＊From Shinjuku to Takaosanguchi, take the Keio Railway. 　　　　　　　　　＊From a hotel in the city center to Takaosanguchi, it costs about 700 yen. 　＊The cable car from Takaosanguchi to near the top of Takao costs 500 yen.
